Some more wicked weather is expected to batter the DMV Region on Monday as the National Weather Service upgraded it's "Severe Weather Threat" to a level four on Monday, Aug. 7.

Forecasters are cautioning that there is a severe risk of thunderstorms late on Monday afternoon, which could bring "potentially destructive winds," as well as tornadoes and large hail.

The storms are expected to hit west of the Blue Ridge Mountains at around noon through 3 p.m, before they head east. The greater DMV region can expect storms to arrive between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Winds may approach 80 mph, and a Hazardous Weather Outlook advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service.

The wild weather is expected to last from approximately 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., according to officials.

According to the National Weather Service, "this is the first moderate risk for severe weather in at least 10 years for much of our forecast area."

Power outages are being anticipated in some areas, and residents have been advised to prepare ahead of time before the brunt of the storm strikes the region.

"An outbreak of severe storms is expected this afternoon and evening across the greater Baltimore/Washington region, with numerous severe thunderstorms expected," the National Weather Service posted in a special statement.

"There is a significant threat for damaging and locally destructive hurricane-force winds, along with the potential for large hail and tornadoes, event strong tornadoes."

Things are expected to clear up on Tuesday, though temperatures will remain high throughout the region.
